Types of Specialty Grains and Products

A wide variety of IP Specialty Grains and crops are grown in the Upper Midwest region of the U.S. Our producers have been growing, segregating and marketing IP food grade soybeans to Asia, food grade corn to Mexico, wheat varieties, pulse crops and many other specialty grains to world markets for decades.

With the continued expansion of new biotech, genetically-modified (GMO) grain varieties, specialized markets have emerged for conventional “non-GMO” grains for both food and feed uses. Today these non-GMO crops offer premiums to growers and grain firms that are experienced in supplying high quality, identity preserved grains. And certain new GM varieties are also being produced as identity preserved, premium special-trait soybeans and grains for specific health benefits.

Today, buyers will find that often there is a limited supply of these specialty grains available at any time on the open or “spot” market in the U.S. Customers looking to purchase these specialty grains today may find their best strategy is to establish a direct contract relationship with experienced specialty grain handing companies, who in turn have contracts and direct relationships with growers in their region . It is best to try to establish these business relationships well in advance of the growing season. This way producers, grain companies, shippers and food industry buyers can all benefit from a more reliable market and supply of high quality grains.

Midwest Shippers Association is made up of many of the most experienced, knowledgeable and highly regarded specialty grains producers and companies in the world. They understand customer needs. Many of them have long term, close relationships with food manufacturing customers throughout the world, and have established global partnerships to provide highly specialized food products.
